Support Your Local Boy Scouts with a Flag in Your Yard
New Lenox Scouts BSA Troop 49 proudly invites you to join our mission with the Holiday Flags program! On every federal flag holiday—Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day—our dedicated scouts will post an American-made 3x5 US Flag in your front yard at dawn and retire it at sunset. Chartered by our local VFW Post 9545, Troop 49 leads with pride, placing and distributing flags at the New Lenox Loyalty Day parade each year. This program fuels our scouts’ adventures, builds their character, and strengthens their respect for Our Flag and Our Country.

Do you have a veteran who deserves this powerful tribute? A family member? Through the VFW, we can honor a local hero on your behalf if you don’t know someone directly. Even businesses and HOAs can step up and participate—just ensure there’s a safe, visible spot to proudly display the U.S. Flag.

Our scouts will begin with installation of a 1” diameter, 10” piece of PVC to serve as your flag holder in your front yard, on your property. A small painted stencil mark on the sidewalk will help to find it. Then on each holiday, scouts will post a 3X5 American made Flag for display all day. Then at dusk, our scouts will retire the flag. Flags remain the property of Troop 49 and will be stored by the Troop as well. Posting or retirement may be affected by inclement weather.

With enrollment in Troop 49’s Holiday Flags program, you agree to hold harmless Troop 49, VFW Post 9545, Rainbow Council, Scouting America, our scouts and their families from any possible damages. Troop 49 will provide an American Made, US Flag on a pole, on each of the 5 federal holidays, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day. Inclement weather may affect display ability or times.
